So just finished a nightshift and feel really crappy, tired, overly emotional and very short tempered, so to try and aid myself to feel better I’ve been trying to think of all the little things in life that make me happy. Especially after an awfully long 12 and a half hour shift.
People always say its the little things in life that make us happy and for me its so true. Like when I’ve finished a nightshift and my mum drives passed me whilst I’m waiting for my bus home, and she’s on her way to work, she will look for me and we smile and wave like idiots. Even on days when I don’t happen to see her go by or she has completely missed me standing waving like a numpty, the funny texts we will send to notify each other that one of us has just made a complete nugget of ourselves will make me smile.
Other little things make me smile to, like spotting a heart shaped tree where I wait to get the bus home or having a nice bus driver who will smile and ask how u are today. Even though even on the worst days he will get the same response “I’m fine thank you.”
Or a good morning text from one of my best friends just because I know that at that time in the morning she has remembered I’ve been working and been thinking of me.
Even things like the silly comments my dad will post on my Facebook page genuinely insinuating I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer (which to be fair is a valid point).
The right song coming on at the right time and feeling though somehow it’s just meant for you.
The silly look on my dogs face and how excited he gets when I get home (although that’s probably because he knows if he’s been good he will get a treat and has nothing to do with the fact he’s missed me).
My husband making me breakfast just because and he remembered that I like ketchup on my bacon if its on bread but mayonnaise if the breads toasted.
Anyway, I think what I’m trying to say is life is short and as much as we can all try and be happy all the time, we all have other things going on in our lives that make us sad or angry or confused or generally unhappy so we should learn to appreciate all the little things in life because if it makes us smile, even for a brief moment, well then it might just be enough to help us carry on with the day..x
